Maison Camus unveils the latest chapter of its collection inspired by Jules Verne’s Extraordinary Voyages. A tribute close to the heart of Cyril Camus, this creation honours the 19th-century French author whose work has long inspired his family, generation after generation. Staying true to his heritage while embracing a forward-looking vision, Cyril Camus has brought renewed momentum to the House: exploring new flavour territories and telling meaningful stories, blending technique, craftsmanship, and imagination — to create truly singular tasting experiences.

After the first chapter titled as L’Île Cognac, accompanied by a tasting table freely inspired by the novel Propeller Island, Les Ateliers Camus now dive into the masterpiece Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, delivering an exclusive cognac with unexpectedly saline and iodised notes.

Discover Sous les Mers, the new intensely aromatic cognac from Les Ateliers CAMUS.

From the meeting of two men aboard the Nautilus

to that of two women within the Maison Camus

Sous les Mers is the name of an encounter, an echo of the meeting between Captain Nemo and Professor Aronnax, the two protagonists of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, who share a deep fascination with the ocean and the splendor of its depths. Julie Landreau and Isabelle Collignon each brought their own personal and imaginative interpretation of Jules Verne’s iconic novel. One is a Cellar Master, the other a Creative Director. Together, they have transformed Maison CAMUS into a marine theatre where, to borrow the words of Captain Nemo, ‘‘stunned amazement will probably be your habitual state of mind’’.

Cellar Master

Julie’s Journey

For Julie Landreau, cognac is a space for experimentation and daring. Far from following established recipes, she invents, constantly exploring unknown paths. Analysis is fueled by imagination, science meets the unexpected, magic meets reason: alchemy at work. The goal is to awaken the palate, to offer unique sensory experiences, to transform each sip into an infinite moment, a spiritual escape. Jules Verne's novel was a powerful source of inspiration for Julie. His story opened the way to new creative possibilities. Aboard the Nautilus, Captain Nemo refuses to set foot on dry land, but manages to harvest and cultivate ingredients enhanced by the depths of the sea. Verne, like Nemo, fertilizes our imagination, and Julie Landreau draws inspiration from this same spirit to craft the cognacs of Maison Camus.

The sea imitates a new cellar, polymorphous and constantly in action.

For Sous les Mers, the Cellar Master explores a bold new method of blending—one that would be unthinkable on solid ground. Taking Captain Nemo at his word, she ventures into unexplored territory, just as he experienced with cultivation at the ocean’s depths. Julie brings this visionary idea to life through a practice she has shaped in her own unique way. Let’s tell the story of that process

Taste Profile

Palate

Elegance and exuberance of the touch on the lower palate like seawater. The iodine and the sea spray inspires freshness and delicacy resting on the mineral notes of flint from the Borderies. A lower palate second level rich and firm, with precision, the cognac takes over, first with the fruity register of apricots, then with praline and candied fruit.

Isabelle’s Journey

To Isabelle Collignon, shapes, colors and materials bring the gauze to life and sharpen our sense of beauty. Detail is everything, everything is in the detail, and nuance is nestled in it. The gaze evokes precise images, ones that converse with one another, harmonizing, moving, and captivating: it is the very essence of the world that is revealed in the mysterious beauty of Jules Verne’s novel, in both the minute details and the grandiose spectacle. From her reading, she felt the birth of a creature forged by light, a symbolic, fascinating, seductive, and terrifying beast—an artisanal masterpiece from Maison Camus. One must dwell between the lines to truly understand.

The Crystal Factory of Dreams

Just as crystal is born from sand and minerals, cognac draws its strength from a land nourished by these same elements. Together they bear the imprint of the same soil, sculpted by time and passion. Guided by their artisanal heritage and a shared creative boldness, Maison CAMUS and Maison Daum journey beyond the limits of the possible, determined to unveil the mystical creature brought to life in Isabelle Collignon’s dreams. The two French Maisons transcend time, each moment echoing the names of their founding families. They preserve a legacy of craftsmanship, elevated through the patient and precise integration of cutting-edge expertise.
