Camus Unveils Sous Les Mers – A Unique Cognac in a Precious Vessel
A MASTERPIECE BORN OF CRYSTAL, IMMERSED IN THE ATLANTIC
On June 5, 2025, Maison Camus unveiled its boldest masterpiece to date at Sotheby’s Hong Kong: Sous Les Mers. This extraordinary creation, limited to just five pieces worldwide, is accompanied by a monumental octopus sculpture in crystal, crafted by the legendary French crystal maker Daum.
Bottle No. 1, containing a rare cognac encased in finely sculpted bronze tentacles, is exclusively available through Sotheby’s. It is offered for acquisition at HKD 1,870,240 (approximately EUR 220,000), until the end of August 2025.
An Extraordinary Odyssey Beneath the Surface
Maison Camus opens a new chapter in its Voyages Extraordinaires collection, inspired by the visionary novels of Jules Verne. Conceived by Cyril Camus, this creation pays tribute to the prolific French author, whose boundless imagination has long inspired the Camus family.
Sous Les Mers draws its essence from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Under the artistic direction of Isabelle Collignon and the oenological expertise of Julie Landreau, this masterpiece unfolds as both a sensory and narrative odyssey.
At the heart of the project lies a bold concept: a 35-litre cask submerged in the Atlantic Ocean, where the cognac matures over several months, rocked by the tides, shaped by pressure, darkness, and the changing seasons.

The Ocean as Cellar Master
Protected within a metal cradle on the ocean floor, the cognac evolves in perpetual motion, absorbing saline, iodized, and mineral notes that cannot be replicated on land. Much like Captain Nemo’s underwater experiments, Julie Landreau employs a daring physico-chemical approach: low oxygen levels, temperature fluctuations, constant oscillation, all contributing to the emergence of entirely new aromatic dimensions, shaped by the ocean’s raw energy.

A Creature of Crystal: Camus x Daum
In collaboration with Maison Daum, an icon of French crystal-making for over 140 years — Camus presents Sous Les Mers in the form of a mythical sculpture: a majestic octopus in crystal and bronze, guarding the decanter like a marine deity.
From the first sketches to the hand-sculpted form, the Camus and Daum ateliers shaped a creature of legend. Its crystalline skull reflects Daum’s ancestral savoir-faire, while its flowing tentacles embrace the decanter like a sunken treasure. A gold-plated cord at the neck, shimmering between gold and platinum — evokes the marine fantasy world of Jules Verne. Discreet engravings from both Houses seal this exceptional collaboration.
